Steven C. Sosensky has been appointed by Governor M. Jodi Rell as an environmental advisor to serve on the Long Island Sound Advisory Council.  The role of the Council is to prepare a report concerning the use and preservation of Long Island Sound within its boundaries.  The report to the Governor shall include provisions prioritizing the concerns of citizens and organizations for the future of Long Island Sound, recommendations for improving the biological integrity of and public access to Long Island Sound, and identification of available resources concerning Long Island Sound.  Mr. Sosensky has been a commissioner on the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission of the Town of Hamden since 2001, and Chairman of the commission since 2002.  In addition to other public recognition, he has received the 2004 Annual Conservation award from the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association.

Cheryl Gabes Rice

Ms. Rice is a graduate of Providence College (B.A. in Economics, Magna Cum Laude, 1983) and of Hofstra University School of Law (J.D., 1986), where she served as the Director of the Moot Court Program.  Prior to joining Shipman, Sosensky, Randich & Marks, LLC, Ms. Rice spent six years as a Senior Attorney at Finn Dixon & Herling LLP, and, prior to that, she spent six years at Polivy & Rice, LLC, where she was a founding and co-managing partner of the firm.

 

Ms. Rice�s practice is focused on representing lender and business clients in complex commercial litigation matters.  She represents lenders in contested foreclosure and replevin litigation, deficiency actions, applications for receivers of rent and in various other loan-related litigation matters, including fraudulent conveyance actions and defense of lender liability clams.  She also has tremendous experience advising lender clients in troubled loan and work-out situations.  In addition, Ms. Rice represents business clients in a variety of complex commercial/business-related litigation, including contract disputes, business tort, real estate-related matters, claims involving various issues arising under Articles 2 and 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code and in bankruptcy-related litigation matters, including relief from stay motions, reclamations and preference actions.

 

Ms. Rice also represents lenders and borrowers in documenting commercial and asset-based loan facilities, including structuring and negotiating loan proposals, drafting commitment letters and negotiating/drafting loan documents incident to large credit facilities.  In addition, she represents lenders and equipment lessors in equipment financing transactions.

 

Ms. Rice serves as Foreclosure Committee on behalf of the Superior Court for the State of Connecticut in connection with residential and commercial real estate foreclosures.

 

Ms. Rice is admitted to practice law in the states of Connecticut and New York.  She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association (where she serves on the Executive Board of the Commercial Finance Committee and is a member of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section) and the New York Bar Association.
